Excellent Young Scientists
ADIIEE invites oversea young talents to apply for the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) (hereinafter referred to the Program). Relevant details are hereby announced as follows and renewed annually:
1. Overview of BNU ADIIEE
Beijing Normal University (BNU) is a national key “985 Project” and “Double First-Class” (Class A) university directly under the Ministry of Education, consisting of Beijing Campus and Zhuhai Campus. It ranks among the top universities in the country. In the 2016 4th round national level disciplinary evaluation, the number of A+ disciplines in BNU ranked No. 6 nationwide, and 12 disciplines entered the national list of "world-class disciplines". The environment/ecology discipline is the first one entering the ESI top 0.1% with worldwide citations ranking 88/1258 (top 0.07%). The water resources engineering ranked 1st in China and 3rd in the world by the GRAS ranking in 2020. In the 2021 Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings, BNU received A+ for Environmental Science and Engineering, A+ for Ecology, A for Geography, and A for Hydraulic Engineering.
BNU established Advanced Interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Ecology (ADIIEE) on the Zhuhai campus to fulfill the need of constructing the “Double First-Class” university. ADIIEE aims to explore the scientific frontiers and tackle major scientific and technological challenges that cannot be solve by a single discipline. We emphasize to integrate the strengths from multiple disciplines and conduct researches and tackle challenges through interdisciplinary collaborations. We aim at meeting the national needs of developing world-class higher education and advanced technology center, leading the research and innovation frontiers in the environmental and ecological field at international levels, and establishing a world-renowned interdisciplinary research and innovation highland in sustainable development, and supporting university’s "double first-class" construction and "one body and two wings" development goals.
2. Project Introduction
To improve the talent funding system of NSFC, achieve the function of NSFC in bringing and cultivating talents, and attract overseas outstanding young talents to return to work in China, NSFC sets up the National Natural Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) from 2021.
The Program aims to attract and encourage excellent young scholars from overseas (including non-Chinese foreign talents), who have made achievements in natural science, engineering and technology to come to China to conduct innovative research in their directions, promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, cultivate outstanding researchers who are expected to conduct world-leading research and contribute to the national development in science and technology.
3. Applicant requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
(1) Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, have good scientific ethics;
(2) Born after September 1st, 1983 (updated annually);
(3) Have a doctorate degree;
(4) With research directions in natural science, engineering, etc.;
(5) Hold a formal teaching or research position in an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D department with more than 36 months of overseas working experience before April 30th, 2023 (updated annually); exceptions may be made with those who obtained a doctorate degree overseas and had outstanding performance;
(6) Have scientific or technological achievements recognized by field experts, and have potentials to become an academic leader or an outstanding talent in the fields;
(7) Either not yet returned to China (work in China) on a full-time basis, or started to work in China only after January 1st, 2022. The applicant must resign from the overseas work or have no work overseas after being notified of the grant of funding and return (come) to work in China full-time for at least 3 years.

(9) Application system will be opened after March 22, 2023. Applicants should log on to the system before April 6, 2023, complete the application form, and upload the attachments and other materials. The university will submit the application materials on April 7, 2023. (Date will be updated)
4. Remuneration package
(1) Basic annual salary starting from 600,000 yuan before tax (excluding performance incentives); start-up funding and housing and settling-in allowance are discussed on a case-by-case basis; quota for postgraduate students; on campus apartments for renting with subsidies; on campus apartments for purchasing with subsidies; national level high-quality all-round education for children before universities.
(2) Funding from NSFC: RMB 1-3 million for 3 years.
(3) Supporting subsidies from Guangdong Province: Additional supporting subsidies will be commensurate with the successful applicants' academic qualification and relevant professional experience.
