1. Overview of BNU ADIIEE
Beijing Normal University (BNU) is a national key “985 Project” and “Double First-Class” (Class A) university directly under the Ministry of Education, consisting of Beijing Campus and Zhuhai Campus. It ranks among the top universities in the country. In the 2016 4th round national level disciplinary evaluation, the number of A+ disciplines in BNU ranked No. 6 nationwide, and 12 disciplines entered the national list of "world-class disciplines". The environment/ecology discipline is the first one entering the ESI top 0.1% with worldwide citations ranking 88/1258 (top 0.07%). The water resources engineering ranked 1st in China and 3rd in the world by the GRAS ranking in 2020. In the 2021 Times Higher Education China Subject Ratings, BNU received A+ for Environmental Science and Engineering, A+ for Ecology, A for Geography, and A for Hydraulic Engineering.
BNU established Advanced Interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Ecology (ADIIEE) on the Zhuhai campus to fulfill the need of constructing the “Double First-Class” university. ADIIEE aims to explore the scientific frontiers and tackle major scientific and technological challenges that cannot be solve by a single discipline. We emphasize to integrate the strengths from multiple disciplines and conduct researches and tackle challenges through interdisciplinary collaborations. We aim at meeting the national needs of developing world-class higher education and advanced technology center, leading the research and innovation frontiers in the environmental and ecological field at international levels, and establishing a world-renowned interdisciplinary research and innovation highland in sustainable development, and supporting university’s "double first-class" construction and "one body and two wings" development goals.
6-8 chief scientists are now openly recruited.
2. Job Responsibilities
(1) Establish a research center to explore the scientific frontiers and tackle major challenges with interdisciplinary teams, set up a research team, and cultivate young talents.
(2) Foresee the frontiers of the environmental and ecological research, make strategic and forward-looking plans, and lead major national scientific research or engineering projects.
(3) Organize high-level academic exchanges and collaborations with national and world leading research institutions, universities, enterprises, etc.
3. Direction:
Areas related to environment and ecology, including but not limited to: environmental science and engineering, marine science, ecology, carbon neutrality and sustainable development, hydraulic engineering, environmental planning and management, geography, etc.
4. Requirements:
(1) Promises on abiding by Chinese laws, regulations and rules;
(2) Have high academic influence and reputation in the subject field, major scientific and technological achievements or important academic achievements, and the title of professor;
(3) Have strong leadership skills, and innovative and strategic mindsets for the research and teaching development;
(4) Have international visions to lead the development of the discipline;
(5) Work on campus full-time during the employment period.
5. Package and working place
ADIIEE provides salary that is competitive in the world market, more quotas in recruiting PhD and Master students, and supports the recruitment of full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows. Mainly work on Zhuhai campus with extra office space on Beijing campus.
